A Hike To Midland Hill's Summit - Buena Vista, Colorado
March 14, 2008 - Nathan Hubers called me last night
and requested that I guide he, his sister and friends
who were briefly visiting Buena Vista, Colorado. I chose to take them up the Midland Trail,
located east of Buena Vista, that leads to the summit of
"Midland Hill" (altitude 9,556 feet). In the photo above, the summit is the tallest point on the right.
A fork exists near the beginning of the trail, located on
Chaffee County Road 304. I've never taken the left fork (which is reason to return soon),
but be assured the right fork leads to the summit. :)
Nathan stands next to a huge boulder located beside the trail.
The trail reaches a saddle ... and the
views of the mountains
and valley continue to get better!
Kudos to Chief. What a great dog! Are you aware that Chief has a
group on Facebook for those of us who adore him? Check it out:
Chief ... What A Great Dog.
Some snow along the upper portion of the trail.
At The Summit Now keep in mind three of these people are from flat country USA - Indiana and Michigan -
and I must say they hiked quite impressively. I'll make this
photo the official Mt. Princeton photo of the day.
One more photo with better lighting: Mike (left), Nathan
(white shirt), Eric (top), Angela (the only girl) and Tim (far right). Thanks for a fun morning hike!
One token photo of myself with my cell phone. If you were on Twitter, you may have seen three of my cell
phone photos as the trip was unfolding! My Twitter page: @stevegarufi
and my Twitpic album.
